MERITXELL BARBERÁ

MERITXELL BARBERÁ

Meritxell Barberá has a BA in Contemporary Dance (2001) from the Conservatorio Superior de Danza in Valencia. After working with different choreographers and artists during a three-year choreographic research scholarship, in 2003 she began her professional career as a choreographer and dancer at the head of her own company, TAIAT DANSA, with Inma García. Since 2009, they also work as choreographers for other national and international companies.

After her BA in Information Sciences (Journalism) from Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera València, she studied an MA in Cultural Management and a Diploma in Performing Arts Management at Universitat de València.

Since then, both choreographers run GmExpresa (Gestión de Medios Culturales Expresa), a creative and strategic consultancy which both sets in motion its own cultural projects as well as manages the creative direction of other institutions and companies. With Meritxell Barberá as its Artistic and Communication Director and Inma García as its Executive Director and Artistic Producer, the company organizes different cultural management projects, such as Festival 10 Sentidos.

In 2011, GmExpresa creates the project Festival 10 Sentidos which takes place every year in May in Valencia (Spain). Festival 10 Sentidos, the main living arts festival in Valencia, has become a cultural model both nationally and internationally.

The programme takes place in different theatres, museums, cultural centres and public spaces in the city. This experience with the arts (performing arts, visual arts, film, audiovisual, literature, education…) has become a must-see event every May in Valencia. Contemporary creation, research, interdisciplinarity and transversality are the main elements of the Festival; it focuses on the search for new artistic languages, bringing together emerging and consolidated artists, with local, national and international proposals.

In addition to her career as a choreographer, dancer and director of TAIAT DANSA and as an artistic director of Festival 10 Sentidos and GmExpresa, Meritxell Barberá teaches different seminars in the MA in Cultural Management (Universitat de València – Universidad Politécnica de València) and in museums and contemporary art centres, and an Event Production course (Centro Oficial de Estudios Superiores Arte + Diseño Barreira).
